DDR German Shepherds

Meeting place for breeders and owners of East German Shepherds to talk about their dogs, litters and any other related topic. There are plenty of other boards for WGR, CZ, Show and Am-line dogs; this is for at least 50 percent DDR workingline dogs only.

The MAN, UKC GRAND CH, UCI INT CH V(USA) Henry vom Ödland
OFA Good hips, elbows, cardiac patellas and thyroid normal, Frozen semen available.
Sire: SG-Nando vd Gnitzer Hohen SchH3 (BSP/LGA) IPO3 Kkl-2 Lbz a-normal
Dam: V-Tinka v Ödland SchH1 Kkl-1 Lbz a-normal
Although he has no working titles yet, Henry has consistently produced beautiful puppies with balanced drives, super correct conformation, rich pigment and beautiful, effortless movement. Henry has shown a great deal of interest in herding sheep, and I expect to try for some herding titles this summer with him. He has too many broken teeth to grip a sleeve, so SchH is not an option for him.

Hey Judy,

Henry is just so awesome Shocked Very powerful, excellent pigment, and great structure. A very nice son of Nando!!! Maybe one day I get to see him in person, that will be really cool and exciting. Cool

Thanks, Jamie -
Wish you could all enjoy his capers in person Smile
He's really a good boy. You'd think he was going to K-I-L-L you if you come near his truck, his house, his mama, his yard, etc.. But I can tell him you're okay, and he'll rub on you like a cat. I can take him into petsmart and kids lay all over him. His love of kids really surprised me since I have no kids and he's never really been around them except on a few occasions at Petsmart. I can take him into the show ring, and judges can run their hands all over him without issue (although they spend a LOT of time marvelling at the massive head, I think - Gisela can attest to how broad his skull is Wink ). He's just very well-balanced all around, with gorgeous, effortless movement, really clean and straight coming and going, and seems to throw the same.

I had always liked Henry from the pics but meeting him in person is a whole different thing. His pics do not do him justice. Plus he is Mr Personality himself! Very Happy

Just an update -
Friday 01-25-08, Henry went Champion of Champions, Best of Breed and a Group 2 at the UKC Show at Hutto. He showed quite well again, and he needs two more wins (hopefully tomorrow - Saturday- at the Texas Classic), to can finish his Grand Championship. Cross your collective fingers, toes, eyes, legs, arms....

Much to my surprise and chagrin, Golf won Champion of Champions/Best of Breed the first round Saturday and Henry's sister Heidi took the second! ARRRGH!!!..
That last judge just thought Golf and Henry were "too much dog" hahaha!
So, Henry still needs two more passes for his Grand Champion (Golf needs 4).. Oh well, next show. Taking Emma Sunday to try for her last comeptition win to complete her Championship...
Oh, and whatever body parts you had crossed for Henry, cross MORE of them for Emma!

Congratulations on Golf and Heidi Very Happy What the heck did the judge mean by to much dog? Was he talking about their conformation? That's just crazy, "to much dog"
Henry will get it, I think that judge was just wacky Wink
Good luck with Emma, I just love that name.

Kelly, lots of judges look at our dogs, and see "Too much dog". They're more accustomed to looking at American showline dogs floating their whole streamlined 45 pounds around the ring, and to the eyes that think that's what a GSD should look like, our dogs are big and coarse. Thus, Heidi passed their muster better than Henry or Golf ever could. Some of the judges do like the big masculine males, or Henry would never have beat a few of the dogs that he has. They are as different in their likes and dislikes as we are.
Hopefully, Henry can pick up a couple more wins at a couple of the shows early this year, and finish that Grand. There are quite a few coming up, so we'll be out there trying. Wish I had sponsors!

Judy - Wow Exclamation What a good lookin guy Smile That's too bad about the judges saying too much dog. I personally don't care for the American showline look with that butt that seems to drag on the ground. To me, our dogs are what the GSD represents Wink
