DDR German Shepherds

Meeting place for breeders and owners of East German Shepherds to talk about their dogs, litters and any other related topic. There are plenty of other boards for WGR, CZ, Show and Am-line dogs; this is for at least 50 percent DDR workingline dogs only.

woooo hoooooo, I ordered Rookie's harness today for carting. His littermate sister has been doing it for about 6 months and she loves it. I have gone with them to parades and stuff to get Rookie used to it. His harness should be here next week and we are signed up for the next carting class.
Wish us luck...
I will get some pictures once he gets hooked up.. I have some of Faith, his sister I will try and post soon.

I think you and he will have a blast.

My first female GSD was a "pulling dog". She pulled a wagon, and a sled. However she had to pull them with ME on them as well as helping with the chores. I was a teenager at the time so that poor dog had to do it ALL. But she had enough training that she made my step fathers Husky sled dogs look BAD. (I had her trained before he was even in the picture.) She knew what "walk, trot, go(RUN), easy, right, left and WHOA ment. (I'm not into all that "musher talk" I like REGULAR commands that I can remember!) He was the type that just HATED it when a teenaged girl and her coated GSD did SO much better than his dogs did. Rolling Eyes )

hehe, way to go. I am going to start the commands tomorrow. We are going to have a fun day at my friends house, between the two of us we have 12 dogs. They will all get to play in the back pasture. It a riot.

Julie,
You crack me up.. I was laughing really hard till I heard water running and realized water was running outside. I am the only one home and I went out onto the back porch and the dogs must have run into one of the water spikets and busted it off at the ground..
So now the water is shut off to the house and no water till I can get to the hardware store in the morning to buy supplies.
bummer...
Sad

Thank goodness it was in the corner of the deck and the house. The people that put it in must not have been dog savvy. It was about a foot away from the wall, just far enough for the dogs to get behind. I think they must have been wrestling over a toy or something and bumped into it.
I have only lived here a month, there is probably another shut off valve somewhere that would leave the water on to the house but I dont know where it is yet.

I think they were pretty proud of themselves. One thing I know for sure is they were SOAKED. They must have been playing in it. Part of the porch and a very large area in the backyard is soaked. I am directly across the street from the water company, so we have AWESOME water pressure.. hehe... It was shoot about 30 ft into the air.
I am going to re vamp the whole thing tomorrow, so it wont happen again.

Do tell!!!! I went out of my house this morning, in the dark to receive some horses. As I am walking out I was wondering why the blanket I put out to air was not where I left it... Embarassed
I step off my porch and get attacked by a big black shadow.....wet, muddy and ohhh just sooooooooo happy! Appears Haska had, in the process of threading a blanket into her crate Evil or Very Mad to pull hard enough on it that she bent the door and busted it open.... Rolling Eyes
Now I am sure that my cats had a tough night.... Wink

Oh and by the way, a bunch of the guys on the BC forum are into scootering with their dogs....sounds like fun. But I just don't have enough level roads around here to even attempt that! Can't wait to see more pics of your new adventure! Very Happy

Lucky me, the three Sheps slept outside. I have one of those 4.0 horsepower air blowers, by Metro that I use almost daily to get the mud and dirt off them before they come in the house.(last night I wasnt in the mood, I wonder why?) I leave it set up in the garage and everyone waits their turn. If you dont have one, they are a MUST HAVE. You would be shocked how well they work. My little dogs (Corgi's) are low to the ground and get mud all over their bellys, they actually get thier bellys hosed off then air dried to come into the house. I can get them all cleaned off in about the same amount of time it takes to towel them off. At first they are not sure of the noise, but they LOVE the feel of it. So now they fight over who gets it first. Keeps my brushing down too. It blows all the loose hair off. So use it where you dont mind hair blowing everywhere.
I have already been out to investigate the broken pipe. It is going to be more of a job then I thought. My friend that usually helps me with this stuff is out of town this weekend on a rafting trip.. Thank goodness he left me the key to his shop or I would be buying hacksaws and everything.. UGH..

Dogs like Rookie is one of the reason why I like DDR dogs more so then other GSD lines. Gotta luv the blk sables and he has good pigmentation too. What kind of diet do you have him on Kim?

Why is he not suitable for schutzhund work? Is his temp\nerve not up for it?
