Well I joined so I can learn more about DDR dogs because I'm considering getting one in the next few years.
I have one dog right now and she is a GSD/Husky mix, approx. a year old. I adopted her last November from the shelter. Apparently someone dumped her on the streets because they found her wandering. Anyway she really sweet and calm, but has loads of energy and prey drive. Its been a lot of fun seeing her learn that life is great and its been a great experience teaching her all the basic obedience stuff on/off leash. We still working on that stuff and I'd like to work with a trainer toward getting her CGC eventually.
I've known that I'd like to get a second dog for a while, but wasn't sure what kind I wanted to get. I was leaning more toward GSD, but I'm not so much into the Western bred black and tans that are really common. That and I prefer more of a working type dog in regards to structure and stable temperament/smarts. When I stumbled across a DDR webpage (Julie's to be more specific ) it was like a light went on in my head and I thought this might be the kind of dog I want. So basically I'm here to do research and finish making up my mind (and start saving up if I do decide to get one!!). I'd be glad to hear any pearls of wisdom you'd like pass along!
I have a good idea of what I'm looking for in my next dog. Definitely a male that is friendly enough to take places with me, but with enough protectiveness to guard me (Lily doesn't really have protective instincts, but will back up a more dominant dog that does have them) if we are threatened. Social enough with other dogs to play with Lily and lots of energy for hikes and the like. I can see myself doing at least enough obedience for CGC certification and maybe I'd like go more advanced with obedience or try some agility. Mostly I just want a trustworthy companion to fit in with the pack.
Wow, that was rambling! I think that about covers it... _________________ Shawndra & Lily |

Welcome, Shawndra! Lily is a doll! We got our first DDR GSD last year from Julie out of Aron vom Poppitz & Sindy vom Ludwigseck (see Dakotah vom Banach). He is great! Good luck with your search! _________________ Barclay

Hi Shawndra,
I am glad you found my website AND the link to our forum here. Its a nice friendly place and a great place to learn at many levels. Hope you make yourself welcome here.
I was looking at your pictures of Lily and she really reminds me of some of the sledding dogs in Alaska. I was just reading and looking at pictures of some of the dogs for this years Iditarod. Lily is a cutie! _________________ "Wag more, Bark less"

Welcome Shawndra,
Lily is a doll. She will really love having a young punk to raise. When he grows up, he will teach her how to guard and protect his home and family.
Right now I have an eleven year old and a 6 month old Sindy/Aron pup. (littermate to Kota and Nash). If you hunt around you will see stories about them. _________________ Michele

I'm living in Nampa right now. I got lucky upon graduation from college (which was located in Caldwell) and was able to rent from friends of my family who have a second house down here and gave me a really good deal on rent. They have 3 dogs themselves so its nice not to have to worry about regular wear and tear like scratches on the wood floor. I grew up about 2 hours NW from here in the Council area (which is about 45mins from McCall) and my parents still live up there; so of course I visit pretty regularly to see my horse. They have sheep and cows and just got a working BC.
Mako is so cute!! _________________ Shawndra & Lily |

I just checked out their website and you're right! Probably because she'd qualify as an Alaskan Husky; which isn't an "official" breed but is basically a cross between a Siberian and a working type dog for diversity/more legginess and endurance. I've they are really good for endurance sledding. _________________ Shawndra & Lily |
